HON. EUGENE H. GADSDEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Our Gadsden Scholarship program memorializes the legal acumen and civic leadership of Judge Eugene H. Gadsden (1912-2000), Savannah’s first African-American Superior Court judge, who spearheaded the desegregation of Savannah’s public facilities and mentored countless attorneys.

The Gadsden Scholarship provides financial and mentoring support to promising Savannah/Low Country high school and college students who demonstrate academic achievement, community service/leadership, and intend to pursue a career in law and work for a just and equitable society.

The program also prepares each Gadsden Scholar for the rigorous law school admission process by partnering her/him with a practicing attorney or jurist and by proving opportunities for summer legal internship.
