About our Scholarships

The Savannah 100 Foundation’s Eugene H. Gadsden Memorial Scholarship program, aims to increases the pool of future attorneys who, following the legacy of the late Judge Eugene H. Gadsden, intend to use the law as a vehicle of social change.

The Hon. Eugene F. Gadsden Scholarship memorializes the legal acumen and civic leadership of the late Judge Eugene Gadsden, Savannah’s first African-American jurist, a mentor to countless attorneys, and a pioneer in making Savannah’s public facilities available to all its citizens. The Gadsden Scholarship, in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $2,000, provides financial and mentoring support to promising Savannah, GA high school and college students who have participated in the legal mentoring programs of the 100 Black Men of Savannah and intend to pursue a career in law. Each Gadsden Scholar must be enrolled fulltime in an accredited four-year post-secondary institution. Current Gadsden Scholars must re-apply each year.

Spotlight on our 2017 Gadsden Scholars

Sarah Abdelrahim is currently attending the University of West Georgia where she is majoring in Philosophy. She is a 2017 graduate of South Effingham HS in Guyton, GA and a resident Rincon, GA. Her favorite book is Bryan Stevenson’s, “Just Mercy”.

Zakimya Holmes is currently attending Paine College in Augusta, GA, where she is majoring in English Zakimya is a 2017 graduate of Windsor Forest HS in Savannah, GA and a resident of Garden City, GA. She is an admirer of the late Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall because of his pioneering civil rights work.

Scholarship Guidelines: Only those students who meet the Foundation’s Scholarship Guidelines will be considered for a scholarship.
